The History of the Canterbury Forest Trust
The Canterbury Forest Trust was formed in 1992. The Canterbury Regional Council(Now Environment Canterbury) acted as settlor, and for a few years provided us with valuable secretarial and administrative help. Our main objective was to increase tree planting in Canterbury, using a variety of tree species, including Northern Hemisphere deciduous species, for a variety of purposes. We wanted to find land that was not being used productively, and assist small investors to invest in their future, using the joint venture approach. In order to keep costs down, the investors would be able to assist in the developement of the venture-Sweat Equity!
