The Canterbury Forest Trust
We are a small organisation with a big potential!
We have been involved in a number of projects since we started. You can see some photos on our photo page.
Our main project at the moment is a joint venture with a farmer in Balcairn. We have set up three groups of members, who invest up to on an annual basis, which buys shares in the venture.

All shareholders have to be members of The Canterbury Forest Trust (cost/year,30)
Currently we are looking for new members, especially those who would like to become involved in developing their own forest for the future.

The History of the Canterbury Forest Trust
The Canterbury Forest Trust was formed in 1992. The Canterbury Regional Council(Now Environment Canterbury) acted as settlor, and for a few years provided us with valuable secretarial and administrative help.
Our main objective was to increase tree planting in Canterbury, using a variety of tree species, including Northern Hemisphere deciduous species, for a variety of purposes.
We wanted to find land that was not being used productively, and assist small investors to invest in their future, using the joint venture approach. In order to keep costs down, the investors would be able to assist in the developement of the venture-Sweat Equity!
